Job Title: Central Office Technician

Meridia Recruitment Solutions is seeking a highly skilled Central Office Technician to join our team at CityWest, a municipally owned telecommunications company in Prince Rupert, British Columbia.

Job Summary:

We are looking for a motivated and detail-oriented individual to oversee the installation, maintenance, and repair of central office equipment, including DWDM transport systems, routers, switches, radios, and microwave systems. The successful candidate will have a strong background in telecommunications, transport, and digital switching technology, as well as experience with fiber optic networks, DWDM technology, and timing and synchronization.

Responsibilities:
  • Perform installation, maintenance, and repairs of central office equipment.
  • Acceptance testing, activation, and deactivation of new central office equipment.
  • Manage racks, wiring, and cabling in central office, contracted collocate area telecommunication rooms, and equipment stations.
  • Perform inspection and maintenance of central office heating, cooling, and power requirements on a regular basis.
  • Identify equipment problems in a timely manner and recommend areas for improvement.
  • Ensure upgrades and changes are completed with the least negative impact on service.
  • Collect data and prepare traffic studies and cost separations and submit required regulatory reports.
  • Maintain documentation for installations, maintenance, repairs, and inspections.
  • Perform all other related duties as assigned by management.
  • Comply with health, safety, and environmental policies.
Requirements:
  • Associate degree in Engineering or Post-Secondary related Diploma.
  • Equivalent three to five years' experience in Central Office operations or Computer Engineering.
  • Networking (IP) or Telecommunication background.
  • Some IT certifications preferred such as: A+, Network +, Security+, JNCIA-Junos or CCNA.
  • Preferably certified Electrician.
  • Must have a valid driver's license.
Physical Requirements:

The successful candidate must be able to:

  • Service orders and trouble reports.
  • Move about the work site.
  • Stoop, kneel, and crawl to perform installations.
  • Lift at least 40 lbs.
  • Write, type, and use phone systems and test equipment.
  • Travel as required.
