Job Title: Director, Merchandising Finance

We are seeking a highly skilled Director to lead our Merchandising Finance team. The successful candidate will be responsible for overseeing all accounting operations, analysis, and reporting related to Merchandising, including sales, inventory, cost of goods sold, distribution, and gross profit.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Lead and oversee all accounting operations, analysis, and reporting around merchandising, including sales, inventory, cost of goods sold, distribution, and gross profit to ensure accurate and timely reporting of financial results on a monthly and quarterly basis.
  • Review all processes for continuous improvement with the goal of accelerating the financial close process and optimizing related activities. Partner with the finance team and other business stakeholders to define and propose solutions to achieve process efficiency, including around the use of technology, while considering policies and required internal controls.
  • Responsible for monthly analysis of results as part of the close process and on an ad hoc basis to support the business, including highlighting insights to key stakeholders.
  • Responsible to ensure all balance sheet reconciliations are prepared and reviewed on a timely basis and in accordance with policy.
  • Manage processes around standard costing and related analysis, coordinate process with key stakeholders.
  • Participate in ad hoc projects, including financial systems and distribution/warehousing system projects.
  • Lead and develop a team through coaching and performance management. Ensure standard operating procedures are in place for all key processes. Ensure cross-functional knowledge and training is developed through the team for succession planning.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting and CPA designation.
  • 10+ years of relevant accounting experience while leading large teams.
  • Experience working with publicly traded companies.
  • Experience with internal control requirements for Canadian publicly traded companies.
  • Experience in the retail industry an asset.
  • Experience with process optimization a huge asset.
