We are seeking a highly organized and detail-oriented Operating Room Aide to join our team at Fraser Health. As an Operating Room Aide, you will play a critical role in ensuring the smooth operation of our operating rooms by providing exceptional support to our surgical teams.
Key Responsibilities- Clean, decontaminate, assemble, sterilize, and distribute supplies, surgical instruments, and related equipment for the Operating Room (OR)
- Disassemble, clean, wash, and reassemble anaesthetic and related equipment as required
- Transport anaesthetic and surgical instruments and/or equipment to the assigned area and maintain equipment and supplies according to established procedures
- Pick surgical supplies/instruments as per established procedures and/or physician's request and transport specimens as needed
- Maintain cleanliness of sterilizers and sterile core and instrument room
- Clean equipment room and shelving containing sterile and clean supplies
- Distribute instrument and/or equipment in accordance with established procedures
- Issue and/or deliver supplies as requested
- Restock supplies and set up anaesthetic carts as per established procedures
- Check and restock plaster cart
- Participate in the Departmental Quality Assurance Program by participating in the routine maintenance of departmental equipment
- Transport specimens to the laboratory and pick up blood/blood products as assigned
- Assist with room set-up for cases by performing such duties as moving out dirty tables and equipment and moving in tables and equipment for the next case
- Restock carts for theatres by obtaining supplies from bulk supply carts provided to the OR area and putting supplies away as needed
- Perform clerical duties such as assisting with the recording of workload statistics on supplies and equipment, answering the telephone, completing maintenance requisitions for signature, maintaining records, files, and performing related typing duties
- Grade 12, successful completion of Sterile Supply Processing Program, plus one year's recent, related experience or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience
- Knowledge of surgical and medical terminology
- Mathematical aptitude
- Ability to communicate and deal effectively with others
- Ability to operate related equipment
- Physical ability to carry out the duties of the position
- Ability to organize work
