Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage the supplier approval program (MAP) for product suppliers and ensure the database is up to date.
  • Conduct risk evaluations when approving a new supplier, facility, or country of origin.
  • Assess supplier processing facilities for frozen produce and provide the food safety approval or rejection based on the MAP requirements, FSMA, SFCR regulations.
  • Investigate supplier nonconformities and follow up on the root cause associated corrective actions, verification of the completion of corrective action/preventative actions, and validation of the effectiveness of the corrective actions.
  • Participate in the establishment of high-level standards that suppliers must respect to ensure food safety.
  • Perform facility verification activities and virtual audits when required to ensure suppliers are meeting MAP requirements and GFSI certification requirements.
  • Follow up with suppliers to confirm that food safety and integrity gaps are mitigated.
  • Review MRLs and spray programs to ensure compliance with destination standards.
  • Ensure compliance with labeling guidelines destination standards.
  • Perform periodic monitoring of approved product suppliers and contribute to KPIs to demonstrate the performance of product suppliers.
  • Support product recalls and manage mock recalls and traceability exercises as required.
  • Ensure quality compliance of incoming and outgoing samples.
  • Ensure supplier record library is up to date as per standard protocols.
  • Stay at the forefront of new technologies, developments, and scientific discoveries related to fresh and frozen businesses.
  • Identify opportunities for continuous improvement in the supplier management system and support the implementation of any new programs, processes, or initiatives.

Requirements:

  • Post-secondary degree in Food Science, Food Safety, Microbiology, or other related education.
  • 2 or more years' experience in a related food safety/quality role involving auditing.
  • Experience in frozen foods and/or produce-related manufacturing/distribution is preferred.
  • Relevant certification/qualification programs such as Lead Auditor, Internal Auditor, PCQI, ASQ, HACCP, etc. are strongly preferred.
  • Strong English communication skills are required. Other language skills such as French, Spanish, German, Mandarin are an asset.
  • Highly analytical, detail-oriented, and organized with a strong sense of values and integrity.
  • Proven ability to meet defined deadlines and adhere to required processes.
  • Ability to adapt and thrive in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proactive problem-solver with strong interpersonal skills.
  • Strong computer skills including full MS Office Suite, PowerBI, Visio.
  • Valid driver's license and ability to travel to supplier sites 10-20% of the time.
