The Financial Analyst, under the guidance of the Controller, plays a crucial role in executing Financial Reporting, Planning, and Analysis.
Key responsibilities encompass preparing monthly financial reporting packages, consolidating quarterly reports, managing banking covenants, developing, presenting, and monitoring budgets, updating cash flow forecasts, and communicating results. Additionally, the analyst will take a lead role during the year-end audit, prepare journal entries, and review bank and commission reconciliations, along with overseeing all financial records for associated companies.
In collaboration with accounting functions, the Financial Analyst will provide financial insights into current, future, and potential business initiatives.
Key Responsibilities Include:
- Timely preparation, analysis, and distribution of monthly financial reporting packages
- Consolidation of quarterly reporting packages and management of banking covenants
- Preparation and updating of cash flow forecasts
- Execution of senior-level year-end audit tasks, including the development and reconciliation of supporting documentation
- Oversight and approval of journal entries, review of general ledger, and performance of account reconciliations
- Review of bank and commission reconciliations
- Creation of forecasts and trend analyses related to current business products and prospective initiatives
- Maintenance and enhancement of internal controls over financial reporting
- Provision of advice and guidance to the Controller, VP of Finance & Administration, and internal departments as needed
- Support in the training and mentorship of the Finance & Accounting team
- Execution of other job-related tasks or special projects as directed.
Qualifications:
- Knowledge of accounting principles and practices, financial markets, banking, and financial data analysis and reporting
- Proficiency in computer software (e.g., Microsoft Office Suite, Power Broker, Applied, Market Portals) for managing spreadsheets, reports, documents, databases, and correspondence
- Ability to comprehend and interpret written information and opinions
- Experience in reviewing others' work and monitoring workloads
- Post-secondary education in Accounting, Bookkeeping, Finance, or a related field is required
- A minimum of 5 years of demonstrated experience in finance and/or accounting
- Experience in the Insurance Industry is an asset.
