Role Overview

The Microbiology Laboratory Technician plays a crucial role within the Microbiology division of the Inorganics Department. This position encompasses a wide range of responsibilities related to microbiological laboratory evaluations, including sample analysis, quality assurance, and effective time management.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct microbiological sample evaluations adhering to established methods and protocols;
  • Perform necessary calibration, maintenance, and repair of laboratory instruments;
  • Manage work scheduling and planning to ensure efficiency;
  • Prepare essential reagents, standards, and reference materials;
  • Execute data processing, record-keeping, and documentation accurately;
  • Review data meticulously to ensure precision;
  • Collaborate with Client Services as needed;
  • Implement quality control measures rigorously;
  • Deliver precise results to clients promptly;
  • Make technical decisions for complex analyses;
  • Adhere to Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) and strict quality assurance/quality control (QA/QC) standards;
  • Follow established safety protocols and comply with health and safety regulations;
  • Undertake additional tasks as assigned.

Candidate Profile:

  • Proficient English communication skills (auditory, verbal, written, and reading) are essential;
  • Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook);
  • Strong data entry capabilities with a focus on accuracy;
  • Ability to perform repetitive tasks efficiently in a dynamic environment;
  • Excellent organizational skills with a track record of meeting deadlines;
  • Analytical mindset with problem-solving abilities in uncertain situations;
  • Capacity to work independently as well as collaboratively;
  • Strong work ethic and readiness to undertake diverse tasks;
  • Commitment to excellence and a client-oriented approach.

Required Qualifications:

  • A Bachelor’s degree or Technical Diploma in Microbiology or a related field;
  • At least one year of experience in an analytical laboratory or a related area;
  • Previous exposure to microbiological evaluations is preferred.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to lift up to 30 lbs (14 kg) regularly and carry for short distances;
  • Manual dexterity for intricate and repetitive tasks;
  • Compliance with personal protective equipment (PPE) requirements;
  • Capability to stand for extended periods;
  • Ability to perform general office work, including sedentary tasks;
  • Tolerance for potential unpleasant odors.
