About the Opportunity

We are seeking a highly skilled Cardiac Sonographer to join our team at Nova Scotia Health and IWK Health. As a Cardiac Sonographer, you will play a critical role in the evaluation of cardiac anatomy, function, and hemodynamics using highly sophisticated ultrasound technology.

The successful candidate will utilize equipment and comprehensive specialized education to obtain diagnostic recordings of cardiac ultrasound images and doppler hemodynamic data with indirect supervision from the cardiac physician. You will evaluate and record pathological findings, obtain measurements and calculations, and prepare a summary of the findings for review by the Echocardiologist.

This is a dynamic and challenging role that requires specialized sonography skills, clinical knowledge, and experience. You will work closely with the Echocardiologist to discuss exams, maintain accurate patient files, and record timely information in the computer.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Evaluate and record pathological findings using ultrasound technology
  • Obtain measurements and calculations for diagnostic purposes
  • Prepare a summary of findings for review by the Echocardiologist
  • Discuss exams with the Echocardiologist using PACS and recorded information
  • Maintain accurate patient files and record timely information in the computer

Requirements:

  • Graduate of an accredited School of Diagnostic Medical Ultrasound
  • Sonography Canada certification
  • Nova Scotia College of Medical Imaging and Radiation Therapy Professionals (NSCMIRTP) licensure
  • Current BLS certification
  • Minimum of one year clinical experience preferred
  • Experience in a tertiary care setting an asset
  • Experience in Adult Congenital Heart Disease, TEE, Dobutamine Stress Echo, Exercise Stress Echo, and Research Echo preferred
  • Experience with Philips IE 33, Epiq 7, and IntelliSpace Workstations an asset
  • Experience with General Electric Vivid E95 an asset
  • Competencies in other languages an asset, French preferred
