Responsibilities

In the role of Mechanic, you will collaborate closely with the operations team to ensure the safety and efficiency of blasting operations. Your responsibilities will include the safe operation, maintenance, loading, and unloading of delivery equipment, adhering to standard operating procedures to protect company assets and ensure their reliability. Key duties encompass:

  • Diagnosing and repairing equipment that is not functioning correctly.
  • Assisting in the maintenance coordination of Emulsion Carriers, with work performed by Vale or its subcontractors.
  • Providing product support for Vale and its contractors regarding the use of explosives, including bulk emulsion, packaged products, and detonator and firing systems.
  • Fostering strong, positive relationships between the Company and the Site's primary client.
  • Repairing and maintaining boiler systems integral to the manufacturing process.
  • Responding promptly and effectively to uphold the Company's reputation for superior product quality and customer service.
  • Demonstrating a solid understanding of the handling, storage, and usage of explosives on the surface in compliance with NRC regulations.
  • Completing all required documentation and reports accurately and within specified timeframes.
  • Ensuring adherence to applicable Company HSE Performance Standards and relevant acts and regulations.
  • Maintaining a safe working environment in line with all of Dyno Nobel's safety protocols.
  • Exhibiting initiative and aligning with the Company's standards for safety and customer satisfaction.
  • Participating in safety meetings, reviewing safety documents (safety alerts, emergency plans, etc.), and reporting all accidents, incidents, and precautionary concerns.

Requirements

  • Valid driver's license is required.
  • Mechanical certification is advantageous.
  • Boiler mechanic certification is a plus.
  • Ability to follow instructions and work independently.
  • TDG certificate is required (provided by DNL).
  • Basic hydraulic and mechanical skills are necessary.
  • Experience operating a front-end loader is beneficial.
  • Knowledge of boilers, compressors, and various electrical and mechanical systems is an asset.
  • Familiarity with explosives and Ammonium Nitrate is advantageous.
  • Experience in underground mining and the operation of bulk emulsion loaders is preferred.
  • A positive attitude, friendly demeanor, and a collaborative spirit are essential.
