Job Summary

The Government of Alberta is seeking highly skilled and experienced individuals to fill seasonal Snowmaking Crew Lead, Snowmaker, and Trail Groomer positions at the Canmore Nordic Centre Provincial Park.

Responsibilities

Snowmaking Crew Lead

  • Lead and supervise seasonal snowmaking crews in performing snow production and related tasks.
  • Implement snowmaking strategy and plan.
  • Operate and maintain snowmaking equipment, including side-by-sides, snow machines, ATV's, and other machinery.
  • Perform regular maintenance on equipment and track inventory of parts and supplies.
  • Monitor and operate pumps and compressors.
  • Support the winter grooming program by operating snowmobile grooming machines.
  • Participate in monitoring, maintenance, and safety of all designated trails.
  • Make snow for the Frozen Thunder program.
  • Assist in set-up, running, and clean-up of winter events.

Snowmaker

  • Operate and maintain snowmaking fan guns, air/water guns, pumps, compressors, valves, hoses, and tools.
  • Operate side-by-sides, snow machines, ATV's, trucks, and mobile machinery.
  • Assist with trail packing, grooming, and track setting.

Trail Groomer

  • Implement the Winter Grooming Program by operating snowcats and snowmobile grooming machines to maximize trail grooming production.
  • Inspect, maintain, and clean grooming equipment.
  • Work closely with Snowmaking Supervisor and Crew Leaders to coordinate grooming and snow-making operations.
  • Participate in monitoring, maintenance, and safety of all designated trails.
  • Perform daily operational checks and assist with equipment troubleshooting and repairs.
  • Support winter events by liaising with Nordic event organizers and course chiefs.

Requirements

  • Ensure adherence to all pertinent policies, procedures, and protocols, including Occupational Health and Safety (OH&S) and Government of Alberta guidelines.
  • Lead and participate in emergency and evacuation protocols to provide support to visitors and staff in emergency situations.
  • Have a mechanical aptitude and equipment operating experience, including the ability to troubleshoot equipment and work outdoors in winter conditions.
  • Ability to support and work with other team members within the Kananaskis Region and at Canmore Nordic Centre Provincial Park.
  • Use good judgment and have the ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
  • Respond to public inquiries and address any safety concerns.
  • Interact with the public in a professional manner and create a positive visitor experience.
