Job Overview: Academic and Career Development Specialist

The Academic and Career Development Specialist plays a crucial role in managing academic support and career services for students enrolled in both Undergraduate and Graduate/Seminary programs at Tyndale University. This position involves the coordination of programs aimed at assisting students who may be academically challenged, providing comprehensive academic guidance, course selection assistance, and study skills enhancement. Furthermore, the Specialist will facilitate career development services, including resume workshops, career counseling, and employer networking opportunities.

Key ResponsibilitiesAcademic Support
  • Oversee the daily functions of academic advising services
  • Enhance and refine academic advising frameworks
  • Collaborate with faculty to establish effective advising methodologies
  • Provide support to students facing academic challenges
  • Address academic inquiries and concerns
  • Conduct seminars and training sessions
  • Engage in campus events and orientation programs
  • Administer assessments to identify learning styles
  • Manage resources for academic assistance
  • Coordinate with services for students with disabilities
  • Represent the department at various functions
Career Development
  • Supervise the daily operations of career services
  • Organize career-related seminars and workshops
  • Guide students in defining their career aspirations
  • Offer advice on resume and cover letter preparation
  • Build relationships with local organizations
  • Coordinate job fairs and employer visits
Committee Participation
  • Engage in Academic Probation and Admissions Committees
QualificationsEducation
  • Bachelor's degree required
  • Preferred fields include English, Communications, or Psychology
  • Certification in physical and mental health first aid is a plus
  • Career Development Practitioner (CDP) certification is advantageous
Experience
  • Minimum of 2 years in a related role
  • Experience in ministry or counseling is preferred
  • Familiarity with Tyndale policies and programs is beneficial
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite
