General Overview
The Lead Crowd Artist will oversee the team responsible for crafting crowds of characters and creatures that align with the film's visual style and narrative. This role will also be crucial in developing innovative creative and technical tools, as well as establishing efficient workflows.
Key Responsibilities
Design layouts and animations for crowds in scenes, ensuring alignment with the film's stylistic and narrative elements. Utilize Houdini to publish crowds according to specifications required for subsequent production phases. Manage crowd launches across sequences, scenes, and shots, interpreting creative direction into crowd behavior through performance and movement. Collaborate with the animation team to integrate supporting performances for effective crowd simulations. Work alongside technical directors to enhance capabilities and streamline workflows. Execute technical tasks to support shot production using various production tools, while troubleshooting and devising creative solutions to complex challenges. Address creative and technical issues, identifying elegant solutions to intricate tasks. Collaborate with other departments to meet integration requirements. Mentor and assist in the development of team talent.Required Qualifications
7+ years of high-end production experience in television or feature films as a Lead Crowd Artist, Crowd Artist, or Technical Director. Proven experience in producing crowd simulations. Proficiency in particle simulations for controlling crowd motion and appearance. Familiarity with relevant software and platforms; experience with Houdini 18.0 (or higher) is essential. Expertise in Houdini Crowd setup and simulation. Working knowledge of Mantra rendering, Nuke compositing, and Maya. Familiarity with Renderman and Katana for lighting effects is a plus. Understanding of rigging techniques is advantageous. Strong communication skills for effective collaboration in a team environment.Additional Information
Pay Range for British Columbia Employees: $55 - $65 (Actual salary will be determined based on various factors, including qualifications, relevant experience, education level, certifications, and location). Candidates must be located in the Lower Mainland, British Columbia, and work onsite in our Vancouver Studio. Zoic does not cover relocation expenses. Remote positions require a reliable internet connection via ethernet and adherence to Pacific Standard Time.
