Essential Qualifications for the Truck Driver Role at XPO

Minimum requirements:

  • Must be at least 21 years old
  • Possess a valid Class 1 or Class A CDL with appropriate airbrake/manual transmission endorsements as required by the province
  • Demonstrated safe driving history

Preferred qualifications:

  • Experience operating forklifts
  • Possession of hazardous materials certification(s)
  • Additional airbrake/manual transmission endorsements for other provinces

Overview of the Truck Driver Position

Compensation and benefits:

Daily Responsibilities:

  • Safely operate a tractor-trailer combination, including doubles and triples
  • Deliver exceptional service to clients, including generating sales leads
  • Load and unload freight efficiently
  • Conduct vehicle inspections as mandated by the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations (when crossing into the U.S.)

Physical Requirements for Truck Drivers:

  • Ability to lift objects of various shapes, sizes, and weights (frequently up to 50 lbs. and occasionally over 75 lbs.); maneuver a converter dolly weighing approximately 128 lbs
  • Safely enter and exit a tractor cab/trailer
  • Endure extended periods of sitting in a truck tractor and/or on a forklift; operate heavy machinery and forklifts safely
  • Stand and walk for prolonged periods on various surfaces, which may be uneven or slippery (including outdoor work in adverse weather conditions)
  • Perform reaching (including overhead), bending, climbing, pushing, pulling, twisting, squatting, and kneeling tasks
  • Operate a tractor-trailer combination for up to 11 consecutive hours in diverse weather conditions while safely transporting hazardous and non-hazardous materials
