Position Overview

The Vancouver Airport Authority is seeking a dedicated and experienced leader to oversee our fire rescue operations. Our department is built on values of integrity, diversity, and inclusion, committed to our mission of safeguarding our community and environment through exemplary aircraft fire rescue services.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide leadership and direction to firefighters, ensuring adherence to operational standards and regulations.
  • Assist the Deputy Fire Chiefs in formulating and executing a comprehensive long-term strategic fire protection plan.
  • Act as the on-call duty chief, offering operational support and policy administration.
  • Utilize extensive fire ground operational experience to enhance the management of operational systems and departmental policies.
  • Engage effectively with firefighters, fire officers, administrative teams, stakeholders, and external agencies.
  • Perform administrative duties including data quality assurance, attendance management, and performance evaluations.
  • Ensure compliance with all mandatory ARFF training as per regulatory standards.
  • Evaluate staffing levels to ensure optimal response capabilities and present recommendations to senior management.
  • Assume responsibilities of the Deputy Fire Chief in their absence, ensuring adherence to all applicable regulations and standards.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of five years in progressively responsible leadership roles within fire and rescue services.
  • Proficient in business and office software, with strong business writing skills.
  • Ability to obtain necessary licenses within the initial months of employment.
  • Post-secondary degree in Business Administration, Emergency Management, Fire Service Leadership, or a related discipline.
