The Opportunity

As our donor community expands rapidly through the current $100 million Stand Up For Kids-Futures Transformed Campaign, we are further investing in our impact team's capacity for innovation with the Director of Innovation, Evaluation, and Partnerships role.

Reporting directly to the Chief Impact Officer (CIO), the Director will spearhead the execution of innovative strategies designed to amplify the Foundation's impact. This role entails collaborating with colleagues and partners to establish a theory of change, co-design practices, and frameworks for research and evaluation, all while maintaining a commitment to continuous improvement. A significant aspect of this position involves partnering with the CIO to articulate the Foundation's role as a national impact accelerator for social innovation within the child welfare sector. The Director will work in tandem with internal teams and external partners to promote social innovation and ensure the efficacy of the Foundation's initiatives. Additionally, the Director will act as an ambassador to position the Children's Aid Foundation of Canada as a leader in the field of innovation within the child welfare sector nationally, driving evidence-based practices and scaling the impact of our initiatives.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Strategic Leadership:

  • Formulate and execute a comprehensive theory of change for the initiatives of the Children's Aid Foundation of Canada.
  • Provide strategic guidance and leadership to the impact team, nurturing a culture of innovation and excellence.
  • Collaborate closely with the CIO to align organizational priorities and ensure effective governance.
  • Partner with fellow Directors on the Impact Team to strategize advocacy for innovative solutions addressing pressing challenges within the child welfare landscape.

2. Evaluation and Research:

  • Oversee the development and co-design of evaluation frameworks and strategies for measuring impact.
  • Lead the research team to ensure decisions are informed by evidence and foster continuous improvement.
  • Implement systems to monitor and assess the effectiveness of programs and initiatives.
  • Establish and maintain an Expert Research & Evaluation Advisory Table to ensure the Foundation has access to intersectional expert input for strategic impact projects and innovation in the child welfare sector.
  • Collaborate with internal teams to integrate insights on impact into organizational strategies and operations.

3. Social Innovation:

  • Lead the Impact Accelerator to identify, incubate, and scale promising practices in child welfare.
  • Drive the development and execution of innovative programs and initiatives that address the needs of vulnerable children and youth.
  • Encourage a culture of continuous improvement and innovation within the Foundation and among partners.
  • Incorporate knowledge of innovation tools, practices, and design thinking into the Foundation and particularly the Impact Accelerator.
  • Engage with the evolving Canadian social innovation landscape and global best practices, including pursuing strategic opportunities for the Foundation to lead or participate in knowledge translation activities.

4. Management and Leadership:

  • Supervise the Senior Manager of Research and Evaluation, Impact Managers, and other staff as necessary, including hiring, mentoring, and performance evaluations.
  • Oversee resource allocation and budget management related to the Impact Accelerator and other strategic research and evaluation activities.
  • Contribute to organizational strategy and fundraising efforts by providing input on cases for support related to the Impact Accelerator and other initiatives linked to research, evaluation, and innovation.

5. Partnerships:

  • Develop and implement a framework for Impact Managers to support delivery partners through co-designing programs and evaluation frameworks.
  • Design and implement processes to guide Impact Managers in building capacity and sharing knowledge among delivery partners through practices such as Communities of Practice.
  • Support the development of a regional approach to partnerships with delivery partners across Canada.
  • Cultivate and maintain strategic relationships with delivery partners, academic institutions, and organizations within the social impact sector.
  • Represent the Children's Aid Foundation of Canada in working groups focused on research and evaluation.

Performs Other Duties and Responsibilities as Assigned.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field (Master's degree preferred).
  • Minimum of 7-10 years of experience in social innovation, impact measurement, program design and scaling, or a related field.

Required Competencies and Skills

  • Demonstrated experience in developing and implementing evaluation frameworks and theories of change.
  • Strong understanding of child welfare issues and experience working with vulnerable populations.
  • Understanding of the education sector is an asset.
  • Excellent strategic planning, organizational, and leadership skills.
  • Proven ability to build and maintain effective partnerships and collaborations.
  • Strong communication and public speaking skills.
