About the Opportunity

The Nova Scotia Health Authority is seeking a Medical Laboratory Assistant to join our team in Pathology and Laboratory Medicine. As a Medical Laboratory Assistant, you will work collaboratively with our team to support the pre and post-analytical phases of testing. Your responsibilities will include specimen procurement, data entry, media preparation, sterilization, and clerical duties. You will also be responsible for loading specimens on an analyzer and performing other tasks as required. Positive patient identification and accurate specimen handling are essential to this role.

About You

We are looking for a highly skilled and detail-oriented individual with a strong understanding of medical terminology. You must have a recognized Medical Laboratory Assistant Program or equivalent and be registered with the Canadian Society of Medical Laboratory Science. You should also have strong written and verbal communication skills, basic computer skills, and the ability to adapt to updates and changes in operating procedures. French language skills are an asset.

Hours

This is a permanent, full-time position with a 75-hour bi-weekly schedule. You may be required to work rotating shifts, weekends, and holidays, and may be required to work off-site in long-term care facilities or private homes.

Compensation and Incentives

The successful candidate will receive a competitive hourly rate of $26.27 and may be eligible for our benefits package, which includes health, dental, travel, and life insurance coverage, as well as a defined benefit pension plan.
