About the Opportunity

The Department of Sociology at the University of Toronto invites applications for a full-time tenure stream appointment in the Sociology of Health and Mental Health. The appointment will be at the rank of Associate Professor or Professor, with an anticipated start date of July 1, 2025.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct innovative and independent research at the highest international level and maintain an outstanding, competitive, and externally funded research program.
  • Teach and mentor students at the undergraduate and graduate levels, and contribute to the development of curriculum and programs.
  • Participate in departmental and faculty service, including committee work and other administrative responsibilities.

Requirements

Applicants must have earned a Ph.D. degree in Sociology or in a cognate program with a marked emphasis on social science and health, with a clearly demonstrated exceptional record of excellence in research and teaching. We seek candidates whose research and teaching interests complement and enhance our existing departmental strengths.

Candidates must provide evidence of research excellence, including a record of sustained high-impact contributions and publications in top-ranked and field-relevant journals, presentations at significant conferences, awards and accolades, and other noteworthy activities that contribute to the visibility and prominence of the discipline.

Evidence of excellence in teaching will be provided through teaching accomplishments, the teaching dossier submitted as part of the application, and strong letters of reference.
