Thales Canada is seeking an Engineering Student for the Summer work term within the AJISS program. This role presents a remarkable opportunity for students eager to engage in the largest in-service support initiative in Canadian history, assisting the Royal Canadian Navy's latest class of vessels.
Position Overview
Collaborating closely with the Life Cycle Material Management (LCMM) & Engineering Team, the AJISS Engineering Student will deliver technical assistance regarding AOPV systems. Responsibilities include investigating client issue reports such as unsatisfactory condition reports, notices of defects, obsolescence issues, and statements of capability deficiencies. The individual will analyze, research, and provide recommendations concerning assigned issues while supporting the development of engineering change proposals. This position offers invaluable experience in troubleshooting technical challenges related to ship systems and engaging with technical data packages.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist AJISS Engineering personnel with various technical tasks to meet defined objectives, including:
- Reviewing technical designs and operational specifications relevant to identified challenges;
- Conducting technical investigations into equipment/system malfunctions, including option analysis and solution formulation;
- Supporting the creation of engineering change proposals (ECP), encompassing technical scope, budget planning, and scheduling;
- Analyzing requirements linked to baseline modifications of equipment;
- Preparing system-related design change documentation, including manufacturing drawings and installation instructions;
- Drafting documented work scopes suitable for soliciting quotations from external resources;
- Executing detailed mechanical engineering tasks, such as requirements analysis, design calculations, material compatibility assessments, and risk evaluations.
Minimum Qualifications
Skills and Abilities:
- Strong oral and written communication skills
- Able to work effectively in a team environment
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite
Education:
- Currently enrolled in a Bachelor of Engineering Program at a Canadian University, focusing on Mechanical, Electrical, or Communication Engineering.
Preferred Qualifications
Skills and Abilities:
- Experience in preparing technical reports
- Familiarity with Jira is an asset
Education:
- Preference for senior students in a Bachelor of Mechanical, Electrical, or Communication Engineering Program.
