About Our Opportunity

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Architect to join our team as a Design Team Lead. In this role, you will provide architectural technical and design expertise to guide the pre-design and design phases of large public infrastructure projects.

As a key member of our team, you will lead the internal design team and provide technical support during construction to ensure the successful completion of assigned building projects. Your expertise will be essential in managing projects from building program through the phases of scoping, schematic design, design development, tender construction documents, construction administration, to completion of construction and occupancy and warranty phases.

Primary Accountabilities

As the Design Team Lead, you will be responsible for overseeing and guiding the design requirements on behalf of the Department for various Infrastructure projects. You will work closely with external consultant teams, government partners, end user groups, and community team members throughout the design and construction process.

You will provide direction and oversight throughout the development of large infrastructure buildings projects, including the drafting and management of contracts for consultants and contractors, and management of the design during the planning, design, and construction phases.

Qualifications and Experience

To be successful in this role, you will require a university degree in Architecture, be a licensed Professional Architect with the Nova Scotia Association of Architects (NSAA) or be eligible to be licensed through an association that has a reciprocity agreement with the NSAA.

You will also need a minimum of eight (8) years of Architectural buildings experience, with a strong background in large Infrastructure Projects, such as Schools, Hospitals, Offices, Justice Department projects, or Museums.

Experience with the Design Bid Build delivery process is essential, and experience with Design Build and Construction Management is considered a strong asset. You will also need experience with building specifications, owner/consultant and owner/contractor contracts, and budgeting and financial planning for building projects.

Additionally, you will require experience and knowledge of Canadian building codes and commonly used design standards.

What We Offer

We offer a competitive salary range of $3,231.58 - $3,800.42 Bi-Weekly, as well as a comprehensive benefits package, including a Defined Benefit Pension Plan, Health, Dental, Life Insurance, General illness, Short and Long Term Disability, Vacation and Employee and Family Assistance Programs.

We are an equal opportunities employer and welcome applications from diverse candidates. If you are a member of an equity group, we encourage you to self-identify on your electronic application.

Please note that this is a bargaining unit position initially restricted to current civil service employees represented by the Nova Scotia Government Employees Union (NSGEU). External applicants and current casual employees will only be considered if there are no qualified civil service bargaining unit candidates.
