Job Title: GIS Instructor

We are seeking a highly qualified GIS Instructor to join our team at North Island College. As a GIS Instructor, you will be responsible for teaching GIS courses in the Coastal Forest Worker Certificate program and the Coastal Forest Technology Diploma program.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Plan and prepare learning materials for instructional environments
  • Use a variety of approaches and materials to address different learning needs
  • Teach in assigned subject areas and include all required subject matter or skill activity
  • Direct student learning in a positive, supportive, and caring environment
  • Be available to students regularly during scheduled office hours and classroom hours
  • Clearly communicate learning outcomes for programs and courses
  • Design and conduct evaluations or appraisals of students
  • Maintain records of student enrollment and achievement
Requirements:
  • Forest professional or related discipline with a minimum of three years industry GIS experience
  • Advanced diploma in GIS, master's degree in GIS, education, forestry, environmental studies, or a related field
  • Curriculum development experience
  • One year teaching experience in a post-secondary setting
  • BC Instructors Diploma or BC Teaching Certificate is preferred
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience with all aspects of course instruction, including facilitation of theoretical and applied learning, coordination of field trips, engaging with industry, and coordination of instructional resources
  • Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills
  • Proficiency with a variety of instructional aids, computer applications, learning technologies, and digital tools
  • Demonstrated pedagogical approaches to stimulate and empower learners
  • Experience with the efficient use of advanced instructional technologies
