About the Role:
This position reports directly to the Manager of Unit 35 (Rehabilitation) and the Area Manager Allied Health Red Deer Regional Hospital. The successful candidate will be responsible for the management of adult clients with swallowing and communication difficulties in two clinical settings:
Clinical Settings:
- Unit 35 Inpatient Rehabilitation (3 days per week): The Speech Pathologist works within an interdisciplinary team providing client-centered, intensive rehabilitation for clients with neurological injury.
- Rural Communities (1 – 2 communities served 2 days per week): The Speech Pathologist works across the continuum of care in each community (acute care, long-term care, outpatient rehabilitation, supportive living, and home care) providing client-centered care for adult clients.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide clinical professional practice both independently and as part of a collaborative team.
- Provide prevention, health promotion, identification, assessment, intervention, and case management.
- Participate in the planning, coordination, and delivery of rehabilitation services in collaboration with patients/clients, families, healthcare professionals, and other partners.
- Supervise students and provide clinical guidance to other staff as appropriate.
- Inform ongoing quality improvement, service integration, and program development.
Required Qualifications:
- Master's degree in Speech-Language Pathology.
- Active or eligible registration and practice permit with the Alberta College of Speech Language Pathologists and Audiologists (ACSLPA).
Preferred Qualifications:
- Proficiency in clinical and instrumental (VFSS) swallowing assessment and treatment.
- Experience in the assessment and treatment of adult clients experiencing acquired communication impairments.
- Experience with stroke/neurology.
- Experience working in rehabilitation.
