Position Overview

  • Provide strategic leadership and develop a team of finance professionals tasked with executing the financial strategy and establishing processes related to external financial reporting, accounting, and disclosures.
  • Serve as a trusted advisor to the organization, offering expertise in external financial reporting and accounting practices, while overseeing the consolidated financial results and external reporting functions.
  • Promote compliance with financial control policies across corporate and regional entities.
  • Advise on complex transactions and initiatives, contributing technical expertise to business and project planning.

Key Responsibilities

1. Leadership in Financial Reporting
  • Demonstrate comprehensive knowledge in external financial reporting and accounting for large public entities.
  • Oversee the preparation of interim and annual financial statements, Management's Discussion and Analysis (MD&A), and other regulatory filings.
  • Continuously evaluate complex financial disclosure requirements and implement best practices in financial reporting.
  • Develop and execute strategies for the financial reporting function, ensuring alignment with corporate vision and strategic objectives.
  • Establish performance metrics for the financial reporting team and ensure accountability for results.
  • Collaborate with external auditors and legal teams to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Lead technical projects, managing resources and mitigating risks effectively.
  • Facilitate change management processes related to financial reporting and accounting.
  • Work collaboratively with cross-functional teams to assess the business impact of decisions.
2. Advisory Role
  • Prepare comprehensive business cases and reports for key stakeholders.
  • Research and recommend best practices for continuous improvement in financial reporting.
  • Assist local finance teams in resolving accounting issues as needed.
3. Expertise in Financial Reporting
  • Champion continuous improvement initiatives within financial reporting.
  • Develop company-wide standards and ensure compliance with industry regulations.
  • Identify training needs and facilitate learning opportunities for staff.
4. Special Projects Leadership
  • Lead analyses supporting M&A activities and other significant transactions.
  • Contribute to recommendations on financing opportunities and other non-routine projects.

Qualifications

  • University degree in Finance or Accounting.
  • Professional accounting designation (CPA, CA, or equivalent).
  • 8 to 10 years of relevant experience in financial reporting.
  • Experience in the mining sector is advantageous.
  • Strong leadership capabilities and advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.

Skills Required

  • Extensive knowledge of financial reporting for large public companies.
  • Experience in conducting financial analyses and implementing accounting policies.
  • Proven ability to manage complex projects and lead teams.
  • In-depth understanding of IFRS and relevant regulatory frameworks.
