About the PACT Team:
The AVI Peer Assisted Care Team (PACT) operates as a mobile crisis intervention unit, combining the expertise of mental health professionals with the insights of individuals who have lived experience. This innovative approach allows us to effectively de-escalate crises and create tailored community care plans for those in need.
PACT emphasizes a holistic response to crises, focusing on health and community support. Our peer-assisted model has demonstrated success in helping individuals navigate mental health and social services while minimizing reliance on emergency interventions.
Position Overview:
The PACT team is responsible for delivering immediate crisis support and de-escalation services to individuals aged 13 and older facing mental health or substance use challenges. The Community Crisis Counselor will collaborate with team members to provide prompt mental health crisis management, including assessment, safety planning, and follow-up care.
This role is grounded in a person-centered, trauma-informed framework that prioritizes the needs and autonomy of those we serve.
Key Responsibilities:
- Crisis Intervention: Respond to emergencies involving mental health and substance use crises, demonstrating cultural sensitivity and competency.
- Assessment and Planning: Conduct thorough assessments and develop comprehensive safety plans, ensuring follow-up care is in place.
- Team Collaboration: Work effectively with team members and external service providers to coordinate care and support.
- Adaptability: Navigate unpredictable environments and respond to rapidly changing situations with professionalism and composure.
Qualifications:
- Minimum of 3 years of relevant experience in mental health services, crisis intervention, and case management.
- Undergraduate degree in a related field (counseling, social work, psychiatric nursing).
- Strong understanding of the impact of colonialism on Indigenous communities and the ability to engage respectfully with diverse populations.
- Certification in First Aid and CPR.
- Valid driver's license and a clean driving record.
Essential Characteristics:

- Flexibility and self-direction in fulfilling professional responsibilities.
- Critical thinking skills to assess and respond to complex situations effectively.
Work Environment:
This position involves working in various community settings, including homes and public spaces, responding to crises as they arise.
