Job Title: Survey Crew Chief

Job Summary:

The Survey Crew Chief plays a critical role in ensuring the successful execution of survey operations within the Department. This position requires a high level of expertise in surveying practices, policies, and procedures. The incumbent will be responsible for leading a team of survey staff, providing direction, and ensuring that all survey operations are conducted in accordance with Department standards and guidelines.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Establish and verify secondary and horizontal and vertical control.
  • Coordinate the collection and ensure the accurate documentation of survey data.
  • Conduct searches of relevant survey information (plans, profiles, benchmarks, etc.).
  • Daily/Weekly consultation on project status and operations.
  • Train and mentor survey staff.

Requirements:

  • Civil Engineering Technology Diploma or completion of Department Level 3 training courses.
  • Directly related experience in all aspects of survey (Preliminary, Construction, Bridge, Railway, Hydraulic Assessment, Culvert Replacement, and DTM).
  • Knowledge of current surveying policies, procedures, and guidelines.
  • Knowledge of Occupational Health, Safety and Risk Management policies and procedures.
  • Effective leadership skills.
  • Effective interpersonal and teamwork skills.
  • Effective time management skills.
  • Effective analytical and decision-making skills.
  • Strong verbal communication skills.
  • Strong written communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently.

Working Conditions:

  • Must be legally entitled to work in Canada.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid Manitoba Class 5 Driver's Licence without restrictions.
  • Must be able to perform the work mainly in the field in both winter and summer.
  • Must be physically capable of performing the required duties of the position.
  • Must be able to travel within the province to worksites by ground, water, or air transportation.
  • Must be able to work extended hours, including weekday evenings and weekends, with overnight stays.

Qualifications:

The ideal candidate will possess a strong understanding of surveying practices, policies, and procedures, as well as excellent leadership and communication skills. The ability to work independently and as part of a team is essential for this role.
