Job Title: Fire Inspector

Halifax Regional Municipality is seeking highly skilled and experienced Fire Inspectors to join our team in Fire Prevention with Halifax Regional Fire & Emergency. As a Fire Inspector, you will play a critical role in ensuring public safety by conducting building inspections and enforcing fire safety regulations.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Conduct thorough building inspections to ensure compliance with the Nova Scotia Fire Safety Act and Regulations.
  • Identify and report on inaccuracies in property data and respond to complaints or concerns from the public and internal staff.
  • Maintain accurate and contemporaneous records of all activities and document evidence files.
  • Enforce operational guidelines, occupational health and safety standards, rules, regulations, policies, systems, and procedures for safe and efficient fire prevention operations.
  • Review and coordinate the development of operational policies and guidelines and recommend changes or additions as necessary.
Requirements:
  • Level 2 Fire Inspector Certification or Level 2 Building Official Diploma of Qualification and ability to obtain Level 2 Fire Inspector Certification.
  • Minimum five (5) years' relevant experience administering a Fire Safety Act and Regulations, Building Code Act and Regulations, and/or equivalent legislation.
  • Valid driver's license and ability to travel in a company vehicle.
Working Conditions:

As a Fire Inspector with Halifax Regional Municipality, you will work in a fast-paced environment with a high level of public interaction. You will be required to work independently and as part of a team to achieve departmental goals and objectives.

The successful candidate will be required to complete an employment security screening check and may be required to undergo testing as part of the selection process.
