Position: Lifeguard/Swim Instructor – Part-Time

Under the supervision of the Aquatics Coordinators, the Lifeguard/Swim Instructor plays a vital role in overseeing swimming activities at the Town of Ajax aquatic facilities while delivering swim instruction to individuals of varying ages and skill levels.

Key Responsibilities

  • Vigilantly monitors the aquatic environment in accordance with designated zone layouts and addresses any safety concerns promptly.
  • Proactively prevents accidents by enforcing established pool rules and regulations.
  • Provides educational outreach to the public regarding aquatic safety practices.
  • Responds to emergencies with a coordinated and professional approach.
  • Administers First Aid in alignment with the highest certification standards and completes necessary Incident/Accident Reports.
  • Assists in the setup and closing procedures of the pool facilities.
  • Develops lesson outlines and core plans for all swimming programs on a weekly basis.
  • Conducts swimming lessons in accordance with the standards set by the Lifesaving Society and the Town of Ajax.
  • Prepares and submits Progress Cards following the guidelines established by the Town of Ajax.
  • Records participants' performance on Lifesaving Society test sheets and submits completed documentation at the end of each session.
  • Engages with program participants in a manner that reflects the Principles of Healthy Child Development (High 5) curriculum.
  • Listens to participant feedback and responds in a knowledgeable and professional manner.

Required Qualifications/Skills

  • Must be at least 15 years of age.
  • Certification in Standard First Aid with CPR C.
  • Possession of the Lifesaving Society (LSS) National Lifeguard Award.
  • Familiarity with the delivery of aquatic programs and services.
  • Strong communication skills are essential.
  • Must provide a current Criminal Reference Check with Vulnerable Sector Screening that meets the Town's standards upon hiring.

Certifications to be Obtained Within the First 6 Months of Employment

  • LSS Swim Instructor Certification.
  • LSS Lifesaving Instructor Certification.
  • High Five Principles of Healthy Child Development Certification.

Employee Benefits

  • Competitive Pay Rate: $24.97 per hour.
  • Work Schedule: This is a part-time, non-union role with a maximum of 24 hours per week, with shifts scheduled from Monday to Sunday between 6:30 a.m. and 9:30 p.m., accommodating staff availability.
