Job Title: Sign Language Interpreter

We are seeking a skilled Sign Language Interpreter to join our team at the York Region District School Board. As a Sign Language Interpreter, you will play a vital role in facilitating communication between students, teachers, and staff who are deaf or hard of hearing.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Translate spoken language to sign language and sign language to spoken language in various settings
  • Provide sign interpretation services to ensure equal access to education for students who are deaf or hard of hearing
  • Collaborate with teachers and staff to develop and implement individualized education plans (IEPs) for students who are deaf or hard of hearing
  • Participate in educational team meetings and contribute to the development of strategies to support students who are deaf or hard of hearing
  • Provide note-taking services and assist with record-keeping as needed
Requirements:
  • Secondary School Graduation Diploma with a three-year recognized community college diploma or university degree from an accredited interpreter training program
  • Minimum one year of related experience
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
