The Association of Early Childhood Educators of Alberta (AECEA) is a non-profit organization dedicated to advocating for enhanced educational standards, improved wages, systemic support, and better working conditions within the early childhood education sector. Position Overview

The Community Engagement and Membership Development Specialist is vital in nurturing relationships with our members, enhancing engagement, and ensuring our initiatives align with our mission and vision. This role requires an individual with exceptional communication abilities, a human-centered approach, and the capacity to design and execute member-focused initiatives.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement a Community Engagement and Membership Strategy that reflects AECEA's mission and vision.
  • Facilitate community engagement with early childhood educators throughout Alberta, including interactions with post-secondary students in early learning programs.
  • Collaborate with early childhood educators to establish a Code of Ethics for the sector.
  • Engage with post-secondary students to develop a Student Community of Practice framework.
  • Design an ECE Ambassador Framework that offers leadership opportunities for early childhood educators.
  • Initiate a Student Advisory Committee.
  • Foster and maintain positive relationships with members, partners, associates, and affiliates of AECEA.

Required Competencies

  • Communication Skills: Proficient verbal and written communication skills. Ability to effectively convey information and engage with members and stakeholders. Strong presentation and facilitation skills.
  • Relationship Building: Capability to establish and sustain positive relationships with members and other stakeholders.
  • Membership Engagement: Understanding of strategies to enhance member involvement and satisfaction.
  • Event Planning and Coordination: Proficiency in planning, organizing, and executing events, workshops, and conferences.
  • Collaboration and Teamwork: Ability to work effectively within a team and contribute to collective goals.
  • Organization and Time Management: Ability to work independently and take initiative. Flexibility and willingness to adapt.

Preferred Competencies

  • Knowledge of Early Childhood Education: Familiarity with current early learning and child care issues, principles, trends, and challenges.
  • Innovation and Creativity: Capacity to think creatively and develop innovative strategies to engage members and enhance association offerings.
  • Leadership and Initiative: Ability to lead initiatives and inspire others to achieve objectives, while identifying opportunities and implementing improvements.

Qualifications

Required

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, social media platforms, and content management systems.
  • Possession of a valid driver's license, access to a vehicle, and willingness to travel for community engagement activities with early childhood educators across Alberta.
  • Strong commitment to the mission and vision of the association, along with a passion for early learning and care and early childhood educators.

Preferred

  • Demonstrated understanding of Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion practices and values.
  • Knowledge of the ELCC sector.
  • GBA+ considered valuable.

Working Conditions

  • 37.5 hours from Monday to Friday. Some evenings or weekends may be required.
  • This position can be remote, hybrid, or onsite depending on the successful candidate.
  • Extended periods of sitting and long periods using a computer or tablet screen.

  • Frequent travel is required.
  • This is an 18-month contract position with the possibility of extension.

Salary: $55,000 to $67,000 annually, commensurate with experience and competencies.
