Health Sciences North (HSN) is seeking a Finance Director

As a pivotal leader within our organization, the Finance Director will play a crucial role in shaping the financial landscape of HSN. This position is designed for an innovative professional who will set departmental objectives while aligning with the overarching vision and strategic goals of HSN.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Establish and oversee departmental objectives, ensuring alignment with HSN's strategic direction.
  • Implement effective financial controls across all areas, including cash and debt management, accounts receivable and payable, payroll, financial reporting, budgeting, and forecasting.
  • Conduct regular assessments of finance personnel to ensure optimal task allocation and timely completion of responsibilities.
  • Develop and maintain robust control systems to safeguard HSN's assets and mitigate financial risks.
  • Ensure the accuracy and relevance of financial data, providing timely reporting to stakeholders.
  • Engage in committee participation to offer financial expertise and lead initiatives with specific mandates.
  • Plan and execute special projects that align with HSN's strategic objectives, as identified during annual planning.
  • Maintain compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) through timely and accurate financial statements.
  • Provide guidance and support to management and finance staff on day-to-day financial matters.
  • Collaborate with the Ministry of Health and other relevant organizations regarding financial data submissions.
  • Review and enhance current processes, policies, and procedures to drive efficiency.
  • Promote the adoption of lean methodologies to improve operational effectiveness.
  • Develop annual budgets and ensure fiscal accountability within the department.
  • Ensure a safe environment for all stakeholders and address incidents appropriately.
  • Manage human resources functions, including recruitment, training, and performance evaluation.
  • Provide hospital-wide on-call coverage for financial issues as needed.
  • Participate in accreditation processes to maintain and improve HSN's accredited status.
  • Foster professional development opportunities for staff within budgetary constraints.
  • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to achieve program objectives and enhance service delivery.

Qualifications:

  • A Master's Degree in Business or a related field, along with a Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) designation.
  • Experience in a leadership role within a unionized and non-unionized environment, preferably in healthcare.
  • Proficiency in financial planning, analysis, and internal controls.
  • Knowledge of lean methodologies and process improvement is advantageous.

  • Exceptional leadership and financial management skills.
  • Strong analytical and critical thinking abilities.
  • Understanding of the healthcare system and its trends.
