Position Overview: This is a full-time, live-in role that allows individuals or couples to make a significant and enduring impact on the lives of children and their families. The primary responsibility of Foster Parents is to provide specialized, treatment-oriented family-based care for children who might otherwise require more structured environments. This role involves adhering to all legislative and agency policies and procedures related to the care of foster children and actively participating in family reunification processes when suitable.
Foster Parents must undergo a thorough screening and selection process, which includes background checks and a comprehensive home study. Benefits of this position include a tax-exempt per diem, pre-service training, 24/7 on-call support, a collaborative team environment, and ongoing professional development opportunities. Both couples and individuals are encouraged to apply.
Candidate Profile: We seek individuals or couples who are passionate about serving their community and connecting with those in need of support. One individual should be prepared to take on the primary caregiver role within this program. Ideal candidates will possess strong verbal and written communication skills, enabling them to effectively engage with individuals of all ages. We value compassionate and empathetic individuals who approach their work with positivity and a willingness to learn and implement the principles of Closer to Home and the Teaching-Family Model.
Experience with vulnerable children and families is preferred, but a strong desire to develop relevant knowledge and skills is also essential. Candidates must be prepared to provide daily care for one youth, attend necessary meetings, and respond to crises as they arise. Successful applicants will need to have current Standard First Aid/CPR certification, a valid driver's license, and appropriate insurance. Additionally, candidates must complete a SAFE Assessment, a Police Information Check, and an Intervention Record Check prior to employment.
