E-Comm 9-1-1 is a leading organization in emergency communications, providing critical life-safety services to first responders and the public across various communities. Our team is passionate about public safety and operates two emergency communications centers in Vancouver and Saanich. We also provide integrated police, fire call taking, and dispatch services to over 70 police and fire departments, as well as owning and operating the largest multi-jurisdictional, tri-service wide-area radio network in the province.

Job Summary

We are seeking an Enterprise Systems Technologist 1 (SysAdmin) to join our growing Technology Services Team. As an Enterprise Systems Technologist, you will thrive on making a difference and embracing challenges, variety, diversity, and our corporate values. Reporting to a Supervisor, Infrastructure Services, you will provide support to various technology systems and critical business and public safety applications for E-Comm, its partners, and clients.

Key Responsibilities
  • Install, maintain, and support the operation of servers, workstations, and peripheral devices in accordance with performance and availability criteria.
  • Monitor and respond to alerts triggered by technology systems, and participate in managing network storage capacity and server virtualization.
  • Troubleshoot incidents and service performance issues, escalating to senior resources as appropriate.
  • Administer user and group account access and rights in accordance with established policies.
  • Develop and maintain system/shell scripts to automate routine tasks.
  • Install and configure workstations and physical and virtual server environments.
  • Plan and coordinate small projects, such as printer replacements, workstation software and hardware upgrades, evacuation site preparation, new server builds, and upgrades, and data migrations.
  • Develop and execute checklists and test plans, document processes and procedures, and provide user training as required.
  • Recommend new hardware and software related to the work, and upon approval, make small-scale procurements.
Requirements
  • Completion of a degree or diploma program in computer science or a related discipline, plus sound related experience, or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
  • ITIL Foundation v3 or later accreditation preferred.
  • Understanding of the Windows operating systems in an Active Directory (AD) environment.
  • Knowledge of best practices in technology service management (ITSM; ITIL), IT security, and data centers.
  • Knowledge of centralized storage management and protocols (FC, NFS, CIFS, ISCSI).
  • Microsoft PowerShell scripting.
  • Experience with Citrix and Virtualization would be highly beneficial.
Security Requirements

As a condition of employment at E-Comm, the required Police Security Clearance applicable to the position must be acquired and maintained. This is a process carried out by our law enforcement partner agencies, facilitated by E-Comm. The minimum residency in Canada to qualify for this position, as established by our law enforcement partner agencies, is 3-5 years.

To qualify for this process, a candidate may be either a Canadian Permanent Resident or Canadian Citizen. We regret any candidates under Student, Visitor, or Work Visas are not eligible for consideration.

Vaccination Policy: E-Comm 911 has a vaccination policy that is currently suspended. However, should the policy be reinstated, it will be a requirement for all current and future employees.

Job Details

  • Hours of work: Monday to Friday, 40 hours per week.
  • Wage/Salary: PG 25| to hourly; $92,040 to $108,555 annually (2024 rates).
