Overview of the Role

As a vital member of the Public Safety / Ta na wa Téy̓wilhay̓lhem Department, reporting to the Community Safety Team Lead, the Community Safety Advocate plays a crucial role in fostering a proactive, visible, and trauma-informed approach to community safety. This position focuses on enhancing the daily safety of the Sḵwx̱wú7mesh people, particularly those residing on-reserve. A significant aspect of this role involves cultivating trust and positive relationships among the Sḵwx̱wú7mesh community, various Nation divisions, and external partners, including law enforcement and municipal agencies. The Community Safety Advocate serves as the eyes and ears of the community regarding public safety matters.

Key Responsibilities

  • Demonstrate effective communication and interpersonal skills to engage with the public and Sḵwx̱wú7mesh individuals.
  • Provide guidance and information on safety and well-being with respect and diplomacy.
  • Support the Emergency Planning and Response unit as needed.
  • Maintain coverage seven days a week, including evenings, nights, and weekends as required.

Compensation

Salary range: $52,522 - $58,231 annually, complemented by a comprehensive benefits program.
