Position Overview

The Environmental Compliance Specialist at Kiewit plays a crucial role in overseeing the environmental management and execution of projects. District Overview

Kiewit's Western Canada District operates primarily in heavy civil projects, focusing on earthworks, transportation infrastructure, road construction, bridges, water resource management, and underground utilities. We seek dedicated individuals who are passionate about construction and willing to engage in hands-on work.

Location

This role will contribute to the construction of a project in a specified region. Relocation assistance may be available for the right candidate.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee environmental compliance for assigned projects.
  • Identify, evaluate, and mitigate environmental risks to the organization.
  • Revise and update environmental management plans.
  • Conduct and supervise field inspections and monitoring activities (e.g., water quality, noise levels).
  • Recognize wetland and sensitive ecological areas for protection prior to construction activities.
  • Maintain project data tracking and reporting requirements.
  • Monitor, forecast, and communicate environmental expenditures at the project level.
  • Develop and deliver environmental protection and awareness training for staff at all levels.
  • Act as a primary technical advisor and coordinator for environmental matters.
  • Collaborate with relevant teams regarding work locations, material requirements, quantities, and invoicing.
  • Interpret and apply environmental specifications and drawings to minimize adverse impacts on the natural environment and local communities.
  • Prepare necessary project reports and communicate environmental risks to project management.
  • Participate in field visits with clients and regulatory bodies.
  • Engage with clients to provide design information, schedule updates, and quantities, ensuring awareness of any unforeseen discoveries and compliance issues.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in environmental science or engineering.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in environmental compliance for large-scale construction projects, preferably in infrastructure.
  • Preferred: Qualified Environmental Professional (QEP) designation.
  • Familiarity with provincial and federal environmental regulations.
  • Highly motivated with a strong commitment to excellence and initiative.
  • Demonstrated work ethic, ensuring tasks are completed correctly the first time.
  • Commitment to ethical practices and integrity.
  • Passion for safety, contributing to a culture where everyone is protected.
  • Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
