Position Overview:
We are seeking a dedicated and innovative Mental Health Therapist to join our team at Alberta Health Services. This role is crucial in delivering community-based psychological and psychiatric evaluation and treatment services for young individuals facing legal challenges. As a Mental Health Therapist, you will implement diverse therapeutic approaches (individual, family, and group) for clients experiencing significant mental health issues.
Key Responsibilities:
- Utilize a range of treatment modalities tailored to the needs of youth and their families.
- Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to provide evidence-based practices in crisis intervention, assessment, consultation, referral, case management, and treatment.
- Support the Staringpoint Program, focusing on long-term care for adolescents involved in the justice system related to sexual offenses.
- Engage with young males to assist in managing and processing offending behaviors, aiming to reduce recidivism rates.
- Facilitate process groups and provide individual and group counseling, alongside experiential learning activities.
- Consult regularly with clinical teams and supervisors to ensure best practices are maintained.
Qualifications:
The ideal candidate will possess a Master’s degree in Psychology, Social Work (clinical specialization), Occupational Therapy, Nursing, or Psychiatric Nursing, with a focus on mental health assessment and psychotherapy. Registration with the relevant Alberta regulatory college is required.
Experience:
A minimum of two years of experience working with youth or young adults in group settings is essential. Candidates should have a proven history of providing counseling or therapy to adolescent clients, along with certifications in CPR/First Aid, Non-Violent Crisis Intervention, and Suicide Prevention.
Preferred Experience:
Preference will be given to those with a background in forensic settings.
