Key Accountabilities:

The Chief Accountant assumes the following key responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement financial management policies and procedures to ensure effective budgeting and financial reporting.
  • Oversee the recording of payroll hours and benefits, and ensure accurate and timely remittance of deductions to the proper authorities.
  • Prepare and present the budget to the Administrator, and provide regular financial reports on the budgetary status.
  • Ensure the maintenance of accurate and up-to-date financial records, including resident trust accounts.
  • Maximize available financial resources by identifying opportunities for improved efficiencies and cost savings.
  • Establish and maintain a system for the management and safekeeping of resident trust accounts.
  • Prepare bank deposits and reconciliations, and ensure accurate and timely financial reporting.
  • Act as a resource to various in-house committees regarding financial matters.
  • Oversee and ensure the proper administration of employee benefits and pension plans.
  • Maintain good working relationships with all departments, residents, and residents' families.
  • Attend Management and other monthly meetings as necessary.
  • Act as back-up in the absence of the administrative assistant.
  • Strive to maintain a safe work environment for self and staff.

Requirements:

The ideal candidate will possess a Bachelor's degree in Accounting or a related field, and a minimum of 2 years of experience in accounting, preferably in a healthcare setting.

The candidate must be proficient in financial software and have excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.

They must also be able to work independently and as part of a team, and have excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
