The University of Ottawa is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Research Strategy & Development Lead to join our dynamic team.
In this pivotal role, you will play a crucial part in shaping the future direction of research at uOttawa. You will be responsible for fostering a collaborative environment that encourages innovation and excellence across all disciplines.
Your Responsibilities:- Lead working groups focused on advancing research initiatives, ensuring alignment with institutional goals and strategic priorities.
- Facilitate communication and knowledge sharing among researchers through meetings, workshops, and informal networking opportunities.
- Represent uOttawa's research interests and advocate for researcher needs in interactions with external organizations, including funding agencies.
- Serve as the primary liaison between uOttawa and research stakeholders, fostering strong relationships and partnerships.
- Provide expert guidance on compliance requirements related to research funding and contracts, ensuring adherence to institutional policies and best practices.
- A graduate degree in a relevant field or an equivalent combination of education and experience. An MBA or PhD would be highly advantageous.
- A minimum of 10 years of progressively senior leadership experience within a research-intensive university or comparable complex research environment, including demonstrated success in leading teams and managing staff.
- In-depth knowledge of university pre- and post-award administration processes, particularly within decentralized settings. You should be familiar with the entire lifecycle of research grants and awards, compliance requirements, and financial management practices.
- Extensive expertise in research contracts and agreements, including experience with complex negotiations, interpretation of intricate terms and conditions, and risk assessment for institutional protection.
- A comprehensive understanding of Canada's research funding landscape, federal funding agencies (NSERC, CIHR, Genome Canada, SSHRC), and Tri-Agency policies, frameworks, and guidelines.
- Proven experience in developing business plans, strategic planning documents, and advising senior leadership on research initiatives.
- A strong track record of building and maintaining relationships with external funding sponsors and stakeholders.
- Exceptional analytical and problem-solving skills, coupled with the ability to take a strategic, long-term approach to decision-making.
- Outstanding interpersonal skills, enabling you to effectively collaborate with researchers, administrators, faculty, staff, students, and representatives from other institutions and funding bodies.
- Demonstrated leadership qualities, tact, diplomacy, and sound judgment in navigating complex situations.
- Proficiency in project management, time management, attention to detail, risk assessment, and conflict resolution.
- Experience with computer systems and software such as Windows, PowerPoint, word processing, spreadsheets, databases, financial systems, email, and the internet.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in both official languages.
