At The MEARIE Group, we are seeking a highly skilled Health and Safety Officer to oversee the administration of Occupational Health and Safety, Liability Insurance, Security, Environmental Protection and Emergency preparedness programs.
The successful candidate will be responsible for fostering a healthy and safe work environment, developing and implementing health and safety policies and procedures, and ensuring compliance with applicable legislation and regulatory requirements.
Key Responsibilities:
- Foster a healthy and safe work environment and be instrumental in maintaining high standards for health and safety.
- Develop, implement and manage health and safety policies and procedures in compliance with applicable legislation and regulatory requirements.
- Responsible for ensuring the internal Integrated Management System (IMS) conforms to the requirements of ISO 45001 Standard, including all required documentation.
- Investigate accidents, incidents and near misses, and develop corrective actions to prevent recurrence. Conduct risk assessments and implement strategies to mitigate them.
- Develop, implement, and train employees on health & safety programs, policies and procedures.
- Identify hazards and trends in the workplace and participate as a resource on the Joint Health and Safety Committee.
- Coordinate the WSIB and occupational injury claims, develop and manage the Early and Safe Return to Work Program.
- Oversee the liability property and vehicle claims from customers and the public.
- Organize and lead safety meetings for various departments within the organization to ensure a consistent and comprehensive understanding of safety protocols and procedure.
The ideal candidate will have a minimum of a 3-year post-secondary degree or diploma in a related field from a recognized educational institution, a trades background, and certification in health and safety management. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and safety management software is also required.
