Position: Student Support Officer

Employment Type: Temporary

Compensation: Competitive hourly rate

Location: Henlow Campus

Work Schedule: Monday to Friday, typically 35 hours per week

The Industry Training & Continuing Education (ITCE) department is committed to developing and delivering innovative educational programs that are responsive to industry demands. We collaborate closely with community partners to create training solutions that align with the evolving needs of the labor market.

The Student Support Officer plays a crucial role in assisting students enrolled in MITT's ITCE certificate programs. This position involves providing comprehensive support in areas such as academic guidance, personal development, financial advising, and career planning. The Officer serves as a mentor, helping students navigate MITT's policies and procedures while fostering their problem-solving abilities and personal accountability.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with an interdisciplinary team to support ITCE students.
  • Guide students in understanding MITT's policies and their responsibilities.
  • Assist students in enhancing their learning skills, including time management and study techniques.
  • Provide advice on academic and personal challenges, promoting independent decision-making.
  • Connect students with additional resources as needed.
  • Monitor student progress and proactively engage with those at risk of academic difficulties.
  • Support students during their transition out of programs, maintaining communication throughout the process.
  • Advocate for students facing challenges and assist in resolving issues.
  • Maintain accurate and confidential student records in compliance with relevant regulations.
  • Facilitate students' transition into full-time post-secondary education.
  • Work with program administration to enhance departmental processes and student experiences.
  • Coordinate with other departments to ensure up-to-date practices and knowledge.
  • Participate in student orientation and support activities.
  • Build a network of community resources for student support.
  • Engage in professional development opportunities.
  • Assist with administrative tasks related to academic programming.
  • Attend meetings and participate in institutional activities as required.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Post-secondary degree or diploma in a relevant field such as education, social work, or counseling.
  • Minimum of three years of experience in teaching or mentoring within a learning environment.
  • Experience working with international students or newcomers to Canada is preferred.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in a post-secondary educational setting.
  • Experience with adult learners.
  • Certification in Mental Health First Aid or related areas is an asset.

Employment Conditions:

  • Must be legally entitled to work in Canada.
  • Successful completion of a Criminal Record check is required.
