Mechanical Designer

We are seeking an experienced Mechanical Designer to join our team at Smith + Andersen. As a Mechanical Designer, you will be responsible for designing building systems, preparing drawings and specifications, and collaborating with other disciplines to deliver projects.
Key Responsibilities- Design building systems, including heating, ventilation, and air conditioning, fire protection systems, plumbing and draining systems, and specialized plumbing systems.
- Prepare drawings, specifications, and reports necessary to deliver a project.
- Collaborate with other disciplines, including structural, architectural, and electrical, to ensure seamless project delivery.
- Develop layouts and design of mechanical building systems, including equipment selection and sizing.
- Prepare calculations to size ductwork, gas, HVAC, piping, plumbing, and drainage, and incorporate calculations into technical drawings.
- Respond to internal and external communication regarding project or design status, and report to the principal and/or project manager regarding design status.
- Minimum four years of direct industry experience in the field of mechanical building services.
- Diploma/Degree from an electrical building services/engineering program.
- Direct experience and proficiency with Revit MEP, AutoCAD MEP, Navisworks Manage, and Dynamo software.
- Knowledge of the British Columbia Building Code, Plumbing Code, and Energy Step Code.
- Knowledge of all Microsoft Office suites, specifically Word and Excel.
- Working knowledge with various mechanical systems, including heating, air conditioning, plumbing systems, etc.
- Familiar with structural, architectural, and electrical models to appreciate space limitations and interferences.
- Familiar with municipal and provincial codes and authorities.
- Demonstrate the ability to work in a fast-paced environment driven by project deadlines.
- Highly innovative and motivated with an attention to detail.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, able to communicate effectively with both internal and external clients.
- Able to work independently, as well as contribute to the team.
