This distinctive position offers opportunities for personal and professional growth, both as part of a regional team and as an independent practitioner. This crucial role influences all phases of the donation process, ultimately contributing to the number of life-saving transplants, making it a fulfilling and impactful career choice.
Key Responsibilities
As a Lead Nurse, you will play a vital role in ensuring the delivery of high-quality, cost-effective services within the Organ Donation Organisation. Your duties will encompass:
- Overseeing and managing the achievement of Key Performance Indicators to maximize the number of actual organs and tissues available within the designated donation area.
- Sharing responsibility for the operational management of all service aspects provided by the Organ Donation Services team within the designated region.
- Directly managing a team of professionals, with responsibilities allocated on a rotational basis within the service management team, including oversight of the full Area budget and management of a 24-hour on-call service.
- Contributing to hospital development planning and leading corrective actions when necessary, ensuring the implementation and evaluation of national strategies within the designated area.
- Operationally managing team members within your delegated area of responsibility.
Participation in a 24-hour on-call rota is required, and maintaining clinical credibility through up-to-date knowledge in all aspects of organ donation is essential.
Candidate Profile
- Demonstrated leadership and management experience in an acute hospital environment relevant to donation, such as Intensive Care Units, operating theatres, or emergency medicine departments.
- Recent involvement in the Organ Donation Service as a Senior Nurse - Organ Donation.
- Awareness of current professional issues and advancements in coordination, nursing, and the NHS.
- Proven ability to assess the safety and effectiveness of personal clinical practice.
- Experience in implementing effective changes within teams or across an organization.
- Proficiency in using information technology, including Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), or equivalent systems.
Qualifications and Training
- Registered Nurse with current Nursing and Midwifery Council registration as a Registered Nurse – Adult or Paediatric Nurse.
- Relevant degree or equivalent qualification in allied health or a related field, or job-related experience equivalent to degree-level knowledge.
- Demonstrable postgraduate equivalent level specialist experience in leadership and management.
- Commitment to ongoing professional development (CPD).
- Possession of a valid driving license for driving in the UK.
