About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Tax Law Specialist to join our team at McCarthy Tétrault. As a key member of our Tax Department, you will play a critical role in supporting our lawyers and clients in all aspects of tax law.

Key Responsibilities
  • Document Preparation and Review
    • Prepare, edit, and format complex tax documents, including correspondence, memoranda, and reports, in accordance with firm standards.
    • Review and revise documents for accuracy, clarity, and compliance with tax laws and regulations.
  • File and Time Management
    • Manage and maintain large and complex tax files, ensuring ease of reference to historical records.
    • Develop and utilize an orderly filing and retrieval system to ensure efficient access to client files.
  • Lawyer and Client Support
    • Coordinate tax-related tasks and projects for assigned lawyers, including research, analysis, and preparation of tax-related documents.
    • Provide exceptional client service, responding to inquiries and requests in a timely and professional manner.
  • Financial and Administrative Functions
    • Assist with the preparation and finalization of tax-related time entries and expense reports.
    • Coordinate with the Finance team to ensure accurate and timely processing of tax-related transactions.
Requirements
  • Education and Experience
    • Legal Assistant diploma or college certificate in office administration or a related field.
    • Minimum 3 years of experience as a legal assistant or in a related field, preferably in a professional services environment.
  • Skills and Abilities
    • Strong attention to detail and superior word processing, spelling, proofreading, and editing skills.
    • Capacity to perform duties with speed and accuracy, while maintaining a high level of discretion and confidentiality.
    • Ability to work effectively in a team environment, with strong communication and interpersonal skills.
