Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver nursing care across various units within Elective Psychiatry Services as needed.
  • Adapt to changing patient care requirements in accordance with CNO standards, RNAO Best Practice Guidelines, specific program philosophies, and diverse patient demographics.
  • Receive patient assignments and adhere to established care plans.
  • Administer both psychiatric and non-psychiatric medications and treatments.
  • Initiate necessary clinical assessments upon admission and at designated intervals, such as Mental Status Exams.
  • Engage with interdisciplinary teams and individual members as appropriate.
  • Serve as a preceptor, mentor, coach, or resource nurse when suitable.
  • Participate in clinical discussions, team meetings, and patient/family conferences.
  • Accept evolving work assignments across Elective Psychiatry Services as directed by supervisors or delegates.

Qualifications:

  • Current registration as an RPN with the College of Nurses of Ontario, in good standing.
  • Up to 6 months of experience in general nursing practice is preferred.
  • Experience in treating eating disorders is advantageous.
  • Current CPR certification is required.
  • Familiarity with the Mental Health Act (MHA) is essential.
  • Understanding of documentation standards (CNO) and privacy legislation (PHIPPA) is necessary.
  • Knowledge of CBT/DBT techniques is beneficial.
  • Medical skills and knowledge regarding re-feeding practices are an asset.
  • Experience in group facilitation is a plus.
  • Ability to effectively manage crisis situations and care for acutely ill patients.
  • Current knowledge and experience in assessing and treating psychiatric disorders, including suicide prevention and managing aggressive behavior.
  • Awareness of the importance of measurement-based care in guiding clinical decision-making; experience is an asset.
  • Previous training in boundaries, suicide awareness, and medication administration is advantageous.
  • Capability to work independently and collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.
  • Proficient computer skills and experience with various systems and software applications.
