Wood's Homes is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to enhancing mental health and well-being for children, youth, and families. We are seeking passionate individuals to fill the role of Therapeutic Caregivers within our program.

Program Overview:
Our Therapeutic Foster Care initiative is designed to provide a culturally sensitive therapeutic approach, prioritizing the lived experiences of Indigenous children. We believe that cultural knowledge is essential for effective family-based care.

Importance of the Caregiver Role:
The Therapeutic Caregiver, also known as a Home Fire Keeper, plays a crucial role in nurturing young individuals who may have faced disconnection from their cultural roots. This position involves fostering emotional, spiritual, physical, and cognitive growth by facilitating positive reconnections.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with a dedicated team of youth specialists, cultural leaders, and clinicians to provide comprehensive support.
  • Engage in continuous learning and professional development to enhance caregiving skills.
  • Receive ongoing training and crisis intervention support, ensuring a safe and knowledgeable caregiving environment.
  • Work closely with cultural supports, including Elders and community members, to provide culturally appropriate care.
  • Serve as a pivotal figure in the care network surrounding the child or youth, contributing to a cohesive treatment team.
  • Maintain a responsive and relational approach, understanding trauma-informed care and healthy development practices.

Qualifications:

  • Availability to provide care within your home environment.
  • Previous experience in youth care and managing challenging behaviors is essential.
  • Commitment to participate in extensive training prior to engaging with clients.

Compensation:

  • Therapeutic Caregivers will receive tax-exempt daily compensation based on the number of children in care.
  • Compensation will also be provided for participation in training sessions.
  • Salary increases will be based on years of service.
