Position Overview

As a key player in our organization, the Senior Civil Engineer/Technologist will oversee the successful execution of various engineering projects, promoting effective collaboration among all levels of the organization and stakeholders. This role demands the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously within a fast-paced environment, ensuring that all deliverables are met. Leveraging your design skills, you will be responsible for both preliminary and final designs across a range of projects, including road rehabilitation, infrastructure upgrades, stormwater management systems, culverts, water mains, and both sanitary and storm sewer systems, as well as water and wastewater treatment facilities. You will also prepare contract documentation and ensure compliance with project timelines and budgets. Building strong relationships internally and externally will be essential, as will mentoring junior team members.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Offer professional and technical guidance to project teams, including junior engineers and technicians.
  • Oversee the commissioning of diverse civil engineering projects, from contract document production to project completion.
  • Design, assess, and implement various water and wastewater systems and facilities.
  • Assist in the preparation and review of contract specifications, detailed cost estimates, reports, requests for proposals, and tender documents.
  • Evaluate and recommend acceptance or rejection of tenders.
  • Provide clarity and assistance regarding contract intent to both internal and external stakeholders.
  • Manage contract oversight and administration, including directing and negotiating with contractors and consultants.
  • Prepare comprehensive technical engineering submissions for stakeholders.
  • Ensure compliance with current standards for design, construction, and operational practices.
  • Support the professional development of junior staff through coaching and mentoring.
  • Stay updated on standards and practices in accordance with federal and provincial regulations.

Required Qualifications

The ideal candidate will possess experience as a Civil Engineer or a Civil Engineering Technologist, with consulting experience being advantageous. Familiarity with municipal and civil design, transportation, and water/wastewater/stormwater design is preferred. A Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or a diploma in Civil or Structural Engineering is required, along with Professional Engineer (P.Eng/CET) registration or eligibility. You should excel in collaborative environments and demonstrate excellent written and verbal communication skills, as evidenced by your ability to create designs, reports, technical documents, and effective client communications. Proven project management skills, combining technical expertise with leadership, are essential for the successful delivery of diverse projects within established parameters.

Additional Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 5 years of civil design or equivalent experience.
  • On track for registration or currently registered as a Professional Engineer (P.Eng.)/CET, if applicable.
  • Bachelor's degree in Civil/Structural Engineering or a related field.
  • Proficiency in various computer software for word processing, spreadsheets, project scheduling, and databases.
  • Experience with AutoCAD and Civil 3D is an asset.
  • Familiarity with water modeling software is beneficial.
  • Strong capabilities in technical writing and report generation.
  • Exceptional oral and written communication skills.
  • Proven ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with stakeholders.
  • A valid driver's license is necessary.
