Job Summary

Vancouver Coastal Health is seeking a registered Dietitian to join the Youth Mental Health & Addiction team in North Vancouver, BC.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct comprehensive nutritional assessments and develop, implement, and evaluate individualized nutrition care plans for assigned clients.
  • Develop and present educational materials for diverse populations and provide nutrition counseling and client-centered individual, family, and group counseling.
  • Provide nutrition counseling and therapeutic counseling, with individual follow-up and home visits as required.
  • Participate in program and strategic planning and research activities.

Qualifications

Education & Experience

  • Current registration with the College of Dietitians of BC.
  • Two (2) years' recent related clinical experience working in a mental health setting, including counseling of various client groups and working with client populations with eating disorders.
  • Valid BC Driver's license and access to a personal vehicle for business-related purposes, as required.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Knowledge of the principles of recovery in mental illness.
  • Broad knowledge of clinical dietetic theory and practice within a client and family-centered model of care.
  • Knowledge of the standards of practice and guidelines for clinical practitioners established by the College of Dietitians of British Columbia.
  • General knowledge of Trauma-Informed Practice and Harm Reduction approaches and Strengths-based care.
  • Demonstrated ability to promote Indigenous Cultural Safety.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide competent and culturally safe care in a variety of settings and with diverse populations.
  • Broad knowledge of nutritional needs/concerns of eating disorders for children, youth, and adolescents.
  • Broad knowledge of enteral and parenteral nutrition.
  • Broad knowledge of other healthcare disciplines and their role in client care.
  • Broad knowledge of research process and methodology.
  • Demonstrated ability to assess client responses to care plans and respond appropriately.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively deal with coworkers, physicians, other healthcare professionals, clients, and their families, and external agencies.
  • Demonstrated ability to plan and implement nutrition care plans in relation to designated client/family priorities.
  • Demonstrated ability to deal effectively with conflict situations.
  • Demonstrated ability to adjust to new or unexpected events.
  • Demonstrated ability to plan, organize, and prioritize work.
  • Demonstrated ability to problem-solve and think critically.
  • Demonstrated ability to teach and provide effective consultation.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide leadership and work direction.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and in collaboration with others as a member of the interdisciplinary team.
  • Demonstrated skill and ability to operate related equipment and techniques appropriate to clinical areas.
