Position Overview:
This role requires sound judgment and effective decision-making skills. The individual will oversee daily operations, providing leadership, coordination, and guidance to the facility operations team. The primary objective is to ensure that quality and safe experiences are delivered to users and the general public. Responsibilities include managing the operation and maintenance of designated recreation facilities, ensuring that tasks are completed efficiently and safely. Collaboration with the Facility Operations Supervisor and the Fleet and Facilities department is essential to coordinate preventative maintenance, inspections, contractor oversight, and adherence to safety regulations.
Key Responsibilities:
Leadership and Staff Development:
• Provide training and supervision to all recreation facility staff to uphold high standards of customer service and create respectful environments.
• Ensure compliance with all relevant City policies and procedures.
• Maintain adherence to OH&S and environmental regulations.
• Make informed decisions in line with collective agreements.
• Mentor and guide staff in the safe and efficient operation of facilities, seeking expertise when necessary.
• Regularly update the supervisor on incidents, opportunities, and issues related to facility operations and staff performance.
• Participate in the emergency 'on call' rotation as needed.
Task Coordination and Scheduling:
• Develop and manage the scheduling of Recreation Facility Operations Staff, taking into account bookings, events, maintenance requirements, and budget constraints.
• Assign tasks to personnel to ensure that the City's core services and policies are effectively met.
• Monitor productivity and quality of work, ensuring minimal disruption to public use of facilities.
Safety and Risk Management:
• Demonstrate a comprehensive understanding of OHS legislation and City safety protocols.
• Foster a safe and positive work environment for all staff.
• Engage staff in the City's Safety Management Program, ensuring all safety practices and training are standardized.
Customer Experience:
• Ensure high-quality amenities and spaces are maintained through staff training and user feedback.
• Address customer inquiries and complaints with sensitivity and professionalism, escalating issues as necessary.
Administrative Duties:
• Ensure all necessary documentation, including safety inspections and incident reports, is completed accurately by facility operations staff.
Facility Operations:
• Exhibit strong competency and knowledge in the operation of assigned facilities, including mechanical and equipment management.
• Collaborate with Fleet and Facilities to ensure optimal maintenance and operation of facilities.
• Conduct scheduled preventative maintenance inspections and recommend repairs as needed.
Qualifications:
• Minimum Grade 12 education.
• Completion of a Recreation Facility Management Certificate.
• At least 5 years of experience in facility operations.
• Minimum 2 years in a leadership role, preferably within a unionized environment.
• Valid Class 5 Driver's License.
• Standard First Aid certification.
• Alberta Class 3Q operator license is an asset.
• 3-5 years of experience in a recreation facility setting, with knowledge of refrigeration and ice maintenance being advantageous.
