We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Support Specialist for Students with Exceptional Needs to join our team at the Ottawa-Carleton District School Board. As an integral member of our school team, you will provide critical support to students with exceptional needs, working collaboratively with teaching and other professional staff to ensure their success.
Key Responsibilities- Provide individualized support to students with Autism Spectrum Disorder, developmental disabilities, and other exceptional needs
- Participate in pool programs, academic support, and implement special programs to meet the diverse needs of students
- Support students with learning disabilities, speech/language issues, and other challenges
- Assist with outdoor activities, routines, and provide physical support as needed
- Collaborate with teaching staff to develop and implement individualized education plans
- Communicate effectively with students, parents, and staff to ensure seamless support
- Community college diploma in Developmental Services Worker, Child and Youth Care/Worker, or equivalent
- Minimum 1-2 years of experience working with school-aged special needs children
- Valid First Aid certification/CPR Level C
- Completed Non-Violent Crisis Intervention, TCI, and/or Behaviour Management Systems (BMS) training
- Knowledge of Assistive Technology and Behaviour Modification
- Ability to work effectively in a team environment
- Knowledge of Indigenous communities and Indigenous traditional teachings
- Understanding of the Ontario Curriculum and educational communication software
