Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Scientist I - Analytical Operations to join our team at Thermo Fisher Scientific. As an Analytical Operations Scientist, you will be responsible for providing analytical support in the Laboratory Operations Department by following standard practices.

Key Responsibilities
  • Document Experimental Data: Document all experimental data in accordance with Attributable, Legible, Contemporaneous, Original and Accurate (ALCOA) principles.
  • Perform Analytical Testing: Carry out independently HPLC, dissolution and physical testing analysis testing following established procedures Analytical Methods & Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
  • Work with Empower and NuGenesis: Work proficiency with Empower, NuGenesis, MS Word & Excel Software.
  • Troubleshoot System Suitability Failures: Perform basic troubleshooting to overcome system suitability failures.
  • Recognize and Report Unexpected Results: Recognize and report unexpected or Out Of Specification (OOS) results immediately to the Supervisor and conducts laboratory investigations under direction.
  • Maintain a Safe Working Environment: Maintain a safe working environment and report potential hazards.
  • Alternate Shift Work: May be essential to perform alternating or rotating shift work (as required).
Requirements
  • Education: High school diploma/General Educational Development (GED) Certificate is required.
  • Working towards B.Sc. in Chemistry: Working towards B.Sc. in chemistry.
  • Experience: Previous experience in a science-related environment.
  • Equivalency: Equivalent combinations of education, training, and relevant work experience may be considered.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Good Understanding of Basic Chemistry: Good understanding of basic chemistry and experience with common laboratory equipment and operation.
  • Chromatographic Separations: Good understanding of chromatographic separations.
  • Qualitative and Quantitative Chemical Analysis: Knowledge of qualitative and quantitative chemical or microbiological analysis.
  • Quality and Regulatory Requirements: Awareness of quality and regulatory requirements in the pharmaceutical industry.
  • Problem-Solving Skills: Good problem-solving skills and logical approach to solving scientific problems.
  • Interpersonal and Communication Skills: Demonstrable interpersonal and communication skills (both oral and written).
  • Mathematical Operations: Ability to apply mathematical operations to such tasks as determination of test reliability, analysis of variance, and correlation techniques.
  • English Language Proficiency: Proficiency with the English language.
  • Teamwork: Works well independently and in a team environment.

Physical Requirements
  • Ambulatory Skills: Position requires ordinary ambulatory skills and physical coordination sufficient to move about lab/office locations.
  • Standing, Walking, Stooping, Kneeling: Ability to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch periodically for prolonged periods of time.
  • Manipulation of Light to Medium Weights: Manipulation (lift, carry, move) of light to medium weights of 10-35 pounds.
  • Arm, Hand and Finger Dexterity: Arm, hand and finger dexterity, including ability to grasp and type for prolonged periods of time.
  • Visual Acuity: Visual acuity to use a keyboard, computer monitor, operate equipment, and read materials for prolonged periods of time.
  • Safety Equipment: Safety glasses, safety shoes, lab coat, latex or similar gloves, safety apron, organic respirator occasionally.
