At SMS Equipment Inc., the Quality Control Team Leader plays a pivotal role in fostering a culture of excellence within the Reman department. This position is tasked with offering guidance and technical expertise while leading audits and overseeing the quality assurance laboratory alongside production floor testing initiatives.

The compensation for this role ranges from $90,000 to $110,000.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Uphold rigorous quality standards while proposing and presenting solutions aimed at enhancing quality and operational efficiency.
  • Support the establishment of policies, operational procedures, and quality systems that ensure thorough testing, evaluation, inspection, and technical assistance to meet product quality benchmarks.
  • Delegate work assignments and responsibilities, supervising projects to ensure teamwork towards shared objectives.
  • Develop, implement, and sustain processes and quality systems, particularly in welding, mechanical, and electrical activities related to Komatsu equipment.
  • Oversee all pertinent Quality Management System documentation, ensuring that QMS records and documentation are accurately maintained.
  • Review, analyze, revise, and create processes and procedures to enhance efficiency and reduce costs, including forms and templates for QMS practices.
  • Examine technical data and compile technical reports.
  • Generate QMS reports for quarterly evaluations.
  • Conduct quality audits in accordance with ISO 9001:2015 standards and specifications.
  • Perform analyses on component failures as necessary to verify failure mechanisms, thereby improving, developing, and maintaining procedures and documentation.
  • Manage Non-Compliance reports and investigate service procedure discrepancies, shipping errors, manufacturing mistakes, and troubleshoot to identify root causes.
  • Collaborate with external consultants and internal SMS departments to evaluate equipment and part failures, developing suitable design and/or procedural enhancements.
  • Engage with customers to address issues and implement Business Improvement Systems, designing modifications to enhance both efficiency and reliability.
  • Execute other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

The ideal candidate will possess a comprehensive understanding of maintenance and repair of mining parts and equipment, along with a minimum of 5 years of quality assurance experience in a manufacturing setting. Additional requirements include:

  • At least 2 years of supervisory experience.
  • Proficiency in reading and interpreting engineering drawings, work instructions, checklists, and parts packages.
  • Experience with ISO Certifications.
  • ISO Internal Auditor Certification is advantageous.
  • A meticulous eye for detail and a results-oriented mindset.
  • Exceptional organizational, time management, and prioritization skills.
  • Knowledge of MSDS, WHMIS, and OH&S acts and regulations, as well as equipment inspection requirements.
