EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITY

After Hours Site Administrator
Professional Practice Office

This position presents a unique opportunity for a Registered Nurse with extensive clinical expertise in both medical and psychiatric nursing, coupled with a strong operational background in personnel and clinical management.

As a vital member of the Professional Practice Office, the After Hours Site Administrator delivers essential clinical and operational leadership during after-hours at the Centre for Addictions and Mental Health (CAMH). Your nursing acumen and leadership capabilities will be crucial as you provide direction and education to enhance care delivery, ensuring alignment with CAMH's vision, principles, policies, and best practices. You will also facilitate and oversee the effective functioning of the hospital during evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays.

In your role as the primary administrator on-site, you will collaborate closely with clinical and support staff to guarantee seamless operations through the coordination of patient services and organizational activities. You will manage after-hours responses to crises and emergencies, offering support and conducting initial investigations to ensure optimal management and communication of events, while identifying any ongoing needs. Your responsibilities will include addressing concerns that arise among patients, families, staff, and other stakeholders regarding patient care. You will ensure continuity in management, care, and services by liaising with Unit Managers, Directors, and the Senior Administrator on-call. Additionally, you will mentor and coach charge nurses to cultivate their leadership potential and effective decision-making skills within a collaborative and engaged team framework. You will be tasked with making decisions about the optimal use of resources across the hospital, fostering a workplace that values diversity, promotes teamwork, and adheres to all applicable regulatory requirements. You will also support CAMH's quality initiatives by reviewing current patient care practices and processes, identifying areas of concern or risk, and recommending or implementing necessary actions.

This part-time, permanent role requires a flexible schedule (averaging 37.5 hours every two weeks) in a 24/7 environment. You must be prepared to work scheduled shifts between 3:30 p.m. and 7:30 a.m. during weekdays, as well as 24/7 on weekends and holidays, and be available to provide additional support during both planned and unplanned absences.

QUALIFICATIONS

You are registered with the College of Nurses of Ontario, possess a baccalaureate degree in Nursing, and have 3 to 5 years of experience working with patients suffering from severe and persistent mental illness and addictions. Additionally, you have formal leadership/management experience within a unionized hospital environment. Furthermore, you will have:

  • Comprehensive knowledge of healthcare and mental health legislation, occupational health and safety, privacy regulations, and infection control practices.
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills to effectively collaborate within a diverse inter-disciplinary team.
  • Awareness of health equity, diversity, and inclusion strategies.
  • Strong management and leadership abilities, self-motivation, and the capacity to work both independently and as part of a team.
  • Excellent decision-making and problem-solving skills to intervene in critical and complex situations.
  • Proficiency in computer applications, including familiarity with the MS Office suite, staffing, and workload management tools.

ASSETS

  • A Master of Nursing, Health Administration, or an equivalent qualification.
  • Previous teaching experience.
  • Bilingualism (French/English) or proficiency in a second language.
  • Experience in managing occupational health and safety issues, infection control, and emergency preparedness.
