Key Responsibilities

Primary Duties:

  1. Oversee and direct various environmental initiatives from start to finish.

Essential Qualifications:

  1. Bachelor's degree in Environmental Biology, Ecology, Environmental Science, or a related discipline (Master's degree is preferred).
  2. A minimum of 5 years of experience in managing environmental projects.
  3. Professional certification (e.g., P.Biol., RPBio) is advantageous.
  4. Demonstrated experience in conducting environmental assessments and fieldwork.
  5. Strong project management capabilities, including budgeting and scheduling.

About the Role

The client is looking for a Senior Biologist to join their team. Candidates are preferred to be based in specific regions, but those from other locations will also be considered.

Your duties will include, but are not limited to:

  1. Leading and participating in field teams across various disciplines (wildlife, birds, fish, aquatic habitats, water quality, vegetation, soils, wetlands, environmental monitoring, sediment, and erosion control).
  2. Contributing to environmental impact assessments, mitigation strategies, and proposals.
  3. Assisting in the preparation and acquisition of regulatory approvals for diverse projects such as transportation, renewable energy, mining, and oil and gas.
  4. Field Coordination and Project Management.
  5. Providing technical leadership and mentorship within a collaborative team environment.
  6. Fostering a strong safety culture and working cohesively within the corporate framework.
Candidate Profile

To be considered, candidates should possess a minimum of a B.Sc. in Biology or a related field with five years of experience, along with RPBio, PBiol, and/or P.Ag. designation or eligibility. Additional courses or certifications in the following areas would be beneficial:

  • Electrofishing Certification (approved by WorkSafe BC).
  • Fish identification.
  • Bird survey methodology and identification.
  • Amphibian salvage methodology and identification.
  • Erosion and Sediment Control.
  • Plant identification.

Candidates with the following skills and experience will be prioritized:

  • Comprehensive knowledge of field techniques and regulatory standards necessary for conducting various field activities (i.e., wildlife assessments, bird surveys, water quality, fisheries inventories/salvage, environmental monitoring/inspection).
  • Understanding of the provincial and federal environmental assessment regulatory framework.
  • Exceptional organizational, interpersonal, and time management skills, along with physical fitness.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal oversight.
  • Strong writing and communication skills, a desire to grow business, and the ability to collaborate closely with other environmental professionals, discipline leads, and First Nations.
  • Proficiency in operating field equipment is an asset.
